438' bore and nickel plating really balance out the horn nicely to be a smooth playing horn while having a strong core with plenty of shine. The leadpipe is rot-free and the plating on the valves is 97% intact - 3rd piston showing minor wear towards the bottom. This 1960 (S/N 872xxx) Connstellation is a force to be reckon with The 'Late model' 36B features a lightweight design, from lightweight braces, a regular 4 5/8' bell to not having a first valve trigger, the 36B plays a lot more nimble yet easier to blow through. The only other blemishes are spots of lacquer wear near the main tuning slide crook, and on the bottom outer 3rd valve tuning slide. The upper 3rd valve slide stem shows some signs of repair from the labor the slide needed (mild lacquer burn), and the bottom of the valve casings show some slight scratches. Both of these spots of wear are signs of consistent use, which is never a bad thing when its still in this great of condition. Some lacquer wear can be found on the bell stem near the crook where the players left thumb may lay against the instrument, and additional wear can be found near the finger buttons. #Conn constellation trumpet professionalOur professional brass technician completed the work and gave this trumpet a thorough play-test, and this trumpet is now ready for sale. Valve (Steve Winans) to make sure they were all within reasonable spec. The valves are relatively short throw, and have a rhythm all their own. Sometimes wobbly, some times smooth as glass. They all had unique playing characteristics to say the least. #Conn constellation trumpet serial numberI have owned 3 of these.two from 1956 and another that had the serial number buffed through that was likely early 60's vintage. As mentioned before, it is very heavy, which may be part of its character too. It can be very warm and suffused, but can also light up when you push it, however, at least for my purpose, it feels a bit pressed when exerting a high degree of force through it. It also takes a surprising amount of air to fill, despite it's. It certainly, at least to my ear, has a tone all it's own, almost mellow by default. The Conn Connstellation 38B is an easy horn to have a love/hate relationship with, in my experience.
